Summary, etc Title: TEACHING STYLES OF SECONDARY FACULTY OF CEBU INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY ? UNIVERSITY, CEBU CITY: ACTION PLAN
Researcher: ELSA J. MIRAL
Degree: Master in Education
Adviser: DR. CORAZON A DE PERIO
School: Cebu Technological University
Year Completed: 2011

Using the descriptive survey method, this study was conducted to determine the teaching styles of Secondary Faculty of Cebu Institute of Technology ? University, School Year 2010 ? 2011, as basis for an action plan. The teaching styles adapted here were those identified by Frank Reissman (1967) as the Compulsive, Boomer, Maverick, Coach, Quiet One, Entertainer, Secular, and Academic Styles. Respondents were the 328 high school students and 47 secondary faculty members. The students were made to assess their teachers while the teachers assessed themselves. The students were randomly chosen from all the sections of each year level. The faculty members were also categorized according to year level.

The data gathered from this study were analyzed and interpreted using simple percentage computation in describing the profile of the respondents, weighted mean in determining the extent of the faculty?s manifestation of the identified teaching style, and T-test for mean difference in determining whether there is significant difference between the assessments of the secondary faculty members and their students as to the teaching styles manifested by the teachers.

The data show that the secondary faculty of Cebu Institute of Technology ? University manifested varied teaching styles and adjusted them according to the nature of students and the appropriateness of these styles to the subject matter that they handled.

Seminar-workshops on both learning and teaching styles would help these secondary teachers have a portfolio of teaching styles to match the learning styles of their students, hence the action plan.
