CAÑETE, Ed.D.<br/><br/> This is an appraisal study on the actualization of Physical Fitness Test for college freshmen at the Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) during the Academic Year 2003-2004.<br/> <br/> Through the use of the descriptive method with the questionnaire as the main tool for gathering data, the status of Physical Fitness Test was determined. This included the attainment of course objectives, instructional materials, facilities and equipment, teaching strategies, course requirements and evaluation of students? performance. The activities as well as the extent of the seriousness of the problems met by the teachers and the students were also considered as the major foci of this research undertaking.<br/> <br/> Summarily, the objectives were attained. The teachers were also considered as able to identify more available printed materials for instruction than the students but both shared the same perceptions on the availability of facilities and equipment for PE 101. Command, constant repetition and emphasis on the utilitarian value of the skill and learning by doing were among the commonly used instructional methods/strategies. Student evaluation was done through departmental test, paper-and-pencil test and actual execution of activities.<br/><br/> The three Physical Fitness Test components which were actualized included standing long jump, curl up and 50-meter sprint. Other actualized components were arm position but less actualized were five of the PFT skills, strength, agility, flexibility and balance. However, nutrition and eating habits were actualized by the freshmen. <br/><br/> The study recommends that enhancement measures be formulated to solve the identified serious problems met by the teachers and students of P.E. 101.
